Percy was the kind of guy that didn’t know how good he had it.
Talk about making mountains out of molehills, Percy could create an Everest out of the smallest of problems.
When his friend didn’t reply to his text within an hour – that was a week long rant.
When he got a yellow card in 5-a-side he made sure everyone knew about this gross miscarriage of justice.
What I think has caused Percy to be so problematic when it comes to pain is that he hasn’t experienced any massive suffering that could put these minor slights into perspective.
He hasn’t had to grieve a loved one.
He hasn’t faced his own mortality.
He lives in a war free zone.
He’s never been betrayed.
What’s more, he’s never compared himself to those less fortunate and realized that actually he has it very good.
