I think the trouble people get into with management-subordinate relationships is when they bring power into it. Nobody wants to be dominated and no one wants to be seen as lesser. Therefore the old classics of respect, honesty, and seeing another human being as just another human being is the way to go.

Me thinks the parakeet was used as a ploy for attention. Why? Because firstly small talk was not allowed to commence until the owner found the bird. By spotting their flaw and violently thinking less of them for it, you reveal your own. You can't hide from the psychiatrist. To them your attempts at secrecy read like an open book.

Somewhere along the line someone convinced them that winning was all that mattered. And so Monopoly ends in tears, card games descend into arguments and matches lead to fights. Friendships have been broken. Relationships have been fractured. But it was all worth it because they won! Right? Right?!?

You're never ready enough. Thankfully time knows this and keeps marching on forcing you to confront the challenge as you are.
