Without a map

Recently I had to drive to a place I’ve never been to before.

Just before leaving the house I had a quick look at the destination’s location on Google maps and saw that it was in a familiar area.

I hooked my phone to my car and the instructions came through the speakers loud and clear.

I was sorted.

Then about halfway through my journey, my phone died.

My map was gone.

My mindset shifted from cool and relaxed to ‘will I find the place?’ And ‘will I make it on time?’.

I knew the general area it was located but I was driving around with no idea if it was the right direction or not.

But what was great was that in all the uncertainty I started to experiment.

I tried different roads.

‘Maybe it’s down this one’.

I got it wrong a few times but slowly and surely I was narrowing down the options.

Until finally I found it.

It turns out there actually was a time before google maps and people put up signs to help you find stuff.

My phone dying gave me a chance to face uncertainty and work myself out of it.

It turns out I’m more resourceful then I thought! I never would have figured that out if I stayed in my comfort zone.
