There was a teacher who at the end of a school year asked their class if there were any suggestions for improving it.
An admirable thing to do.
The students began to give their feedback and not all of it was praise.
The teacher was very clearly wounded by this and quickly became irritable.
The teacher picked on one student’s feedback and barked:
“Well what would you do then?”
This student, having no teaching experience, drew a blank. Which gave the teacher enormous satisfaction.
Morales of the story:
Leave your ego at the door when looking for face to face honest feedback.
Recognize who’s responsibility it is to come up with solutions.
