Blending or standing out

Ireland has a population of 5.5 million within 84,000 square kilometers.

Hong Kong has a population of 7.5 within 1,000 square kilometers.

I wonder how much the above plays into your sense of individuality.

We’ll take the axis of fashion for this blog post.

In Ireland I think it’s more about blending in and that is exemplified in the most obvious way by the group of teenagers who roam around shopping malls in packs wearing near identical clothing.

The only variation might be in the shade of Nike tracksuit or generations of white air max trainers.

Whether as in Hong Kong, one of the most densely populated cities in the world, it’s harder to spot the common fashion trends.

Which I wonder is that because the average Hong Kong resident is more interested in standing out?

Within reason of course. Not everyone is walking around in colourful carnival outfits.

But is there a sense of using fashion to show uniqueness in a city swarming with people?
