Could I add that?

It’s January and Bob & Cindy have been handed a college essay that is due at the end of March.

Cindy gets started on it that day. As she sits down a clever thought pops into her head and she asks the question ‘Could I add that to this essay?’

It would definitely improve her essay but does she have the time? She thinks about it, and decides she has ample time, the essay isn’t due til March.

Cindy sits down to write her essay everyday and with each sitting ideas come to her to improve her essay.

By the time it gets to mid March, Cindy’s essay is done and it is full of great ideas.

Now Bob didn’t start his essay as early as Cindy. He started his essay the night before it was due. And funnily enough the same great ideas came to Bob, but because Bob left it so late he didn’t have the time to add it to his essay. Bob was racing against the clock and as he neared the deadline all he wanted was to make the word count. Any old words would do.

Getting started ridiculously early allows for hours upon hours of rumination which often leads to well thought out intricate plans.

Racing against the clock means lowering standards just to make the deadline.
