Firing someone in a public place has its obvious benefits, the employer uses the setting to prevent any extreme reactions on the basis that the fired employee cares enough about social judgement not to make a scene.
It’s clever from the employers point of view but it’s terrible for the fired employee. They have to attempt two tasks at once. Try to process this negative news and mask their true emotions at the same time.
Before you ask, it’s never happened to me, but I imagine this emotional manipulation not only burns the bridge but annihilates it.
