Easter egg mugs

The other day I was in Tesco perusing the Easter eggs, about to indulge my chocolate craving when I saw something odd.

The Easter egg I wanted included a mug, so if I wanted to get that chocolate hit I desired I would have to buy this mug too.

I didn’t end up buying that particular egg because I didn’t want the mug. The mug actually put me off buying the Easter egg.

Then I started to think why a mug? It’s not chocolate related and if it’s going to put people off why include it?

Then I put my marketing hat on and pondered the nature of mugs.

There are three coffee/tea drinkers in my house and we have at least 12 mugs. That’s four mugs per person. One of the mugs is over 15 years old and each year the collection grows.

Because the only time someone will throw a mug out is when it breaks. So if a mug can avoid accidents it could have an infinite lifespan.

That’s why they’re selling mugs with the Easter eggs, so they can have all year round advertising in your kitchen! Well that’s my theory anyway.
