The first act of the 40 year old virgin is about a man who repeatedly fails to talk confidently to women. His friends throw all sorts of advice at him and none of it sticks.
Then one day one of his friends tells him to walk up that girl and imagine he is David Caruso from the movie ‘Jade’.
Steve (Carell) understands what he’s talking about, he can picture it perfectly and as a result is able to execute on it beautifully.
