Spam v thoughtfulness

Occasionally I get LinkedIn messages that are completely irrelevant to me.

From reading the messages it’s obvious this person has simply copied and pasted a template and thrown it into my inbox without caring if it is relevant to me or not.

This is spam marketing, it just focuses on playing the numbers. If these people were looking for double the return they would simply double the amount of people they message.

A powerful alternative to this method is relevant and thoughtful marketing.

For example on the ‘This is marketing’ website they have a written out an argument that you can present to your boss.

Which was perfect because that was exactly what I needed. It was extremely relevant and thoughtful content.

These tiny touch points make a huge difference in the brand perception.

It’s spam v relevant, apathy v empathy, annoying v delighting.
