Tarantino’s ten

Quentin Tarantino has publicly stated that he will only make 10 movies in his lifetime.

Ten is a nice round number and this personal limit makes Tarantino unique amongst filmmakers who don’t usually set an end date to their craft.

For example Woody Allen, Martin Scorcese and Stephen Spielberg are three directors who are in their 70’s & 80’s and still making movies.

Tarantino is 56 and has just released his 9th film.

If you watch any interview with Tarantino the biggest thing that comes across is his passion for filmmaking. He can talk about it all day and everyday, it’s very obvious that he loves making films.

So I think that stopping after his next movie would be to rob himself of his favourite pastime. I think he’d go spare if he didn’t have another movie to work on.

Maybe he’s afraid that his movies would drop in quality the more he makes, maybe he likes the roundness of the number ten or maybe he said it once and now he’s afraid to go back on his word.

Whatever the reason I think that he should keep doing the thing that he loves for as long as he can. The world would happily forgive him for going back on his word to see another one of his movies.
