Daddy Murphy is standing at the door looking at his watch praying for the strength to remain calm as his family scramble to get out the door in time.
Now Daddy Murphy usually just accepts that they’ll be late but this time he actually cares about arriving early and his stress levels are about to hit the roof as they are now officially going to be late.
You have to sympathize with Daddy Murphy as rushing others out the door is a hard thing to do. Nobody cares as much as he does so they will all saunter about at a casual pace until he yells at them.
A few tactics for keeping your cool in this situation:
Give the others a fake start time that’s actually earlier then the real start time. Although a good tactic you can’t use it too often otherwise they’ll start to get complacent knowing there’s a buffer in place.
Go separately
Identify risks/delays and take action to avoid them. For example have the immersion on very early. Ask people what they’re going to wear well in advance. Fill up the petrol tank.
The ideal situation is everyone leaves on time and you get to keep your cool so whatever tactics you use to achieve that state is up to you. The important thing is not to make losing your cool your go to strategy as that will just wear you out.
