Surrounding oneself

Moneyball is a great movie. It’s great because it shows a man committed to a philosophy and willing to be criticised for it.

It’s a brave act to expose oneself to criticism but if done alone and repeatedly it can bog one down.  

Had Billy Beane tried to do this on his own he eventually would have been beaten down by the naysayers around him.

In order to make his philosphy a reality Beane had to conduct a change in personnel. The sceptics either left or were dismissed and those who aligned with Beane’s belief were brought in.

By surrounding himself with those who understand what he’s trying to do and will support him in his endeavours Beane was much more effective in producing a winning team, a team that became one of the most successful teams in the club’s history.

The morale of this blog post is surrounding yourself with those who understand what you’re trying to do can lead to you thriving.
