One of the common thoughts I have when listening to the Beatles is – Ugh they were so good, why did they have to break up?
The more I learn about them the more it becomes clear to me that this extraordinary group broke up for an ordinary reason – they simply grew apart. By the end of their journey
they weren’t the same people that started it.
It happens to relationships all over the world.
In fact it’s so common place that some people choose not to believe it. They’d prefer to believe that Yoko Ono broke up the Beatles and that John, Paul, George and Ringo were victims in Yoko’s evil plot. That way the blame is on a non Beatle, an outsider who was easy to lay blame on.
The truth is, as I see it anyway, that they couldn’t coexist anymore in the same group, their paths had diverged too much. They all wanted to do different things and they were’t growing together.
It’s hard to take because the good times were so good that we long for them to return. And we don’t want things to change because change means uncertainty and uncertainty means potential for bad times.
I write all this fully in the knowledge that I’m arriving extremely late to the party (they were broken up 24 years before I was born) just thought I’d add my two cents to the topic as I’m just reading a book about it. And I have to say that the break up is hard to read, I much prefer the part when they were up and coming and everything was exciting and new.
