Roy’s parking

Roy pulled into the car park to find it particularly full this morning. It was so full that he couldn’t park in his usual section, he had to drive a small bit longer and park a little further away.

Roy strode to the office, grumbling the whole way.

It wasn’t the extra 20 seconds walking that annoyed him, it’s what it represented.

In his last place of work, Roy held a position that reserved him a parking spot.

Everyday he could arrive at the car park safe in the knowledge that he had a spot saved for just him.

But in this car park, there was no saved spots. It was first come, first serve. In this car park, his car was equal to everybody else’s.

Roy’s ego could no longer gain that loving stroke from where he parked his car … and it annoys him.

It shouldn’t, but it does.
