I think the main cause of anxiety in gift giving is deciding what to buy everyone.
Because the buying part is extremely easy when you know what you’re looking for. Online shopping is just too convenient these days it’s dangerous.
It’s the deciding what to give that’s the hard part.
I think it’s hard because gift giving is an exercise in how well you know the other person.
Your decision comes with an inherent risk – what if they don’t like it?
There are ways to avoid this inconvenience and risk. For example Santa letters. But I think it removes a lot of excitement from the process.
The excitement of:
“I can’t wait to see their face when they see what I got them”
or
“OMG I’m so excited to see what I got!”
