I once worked in a shop.
And in this shop I had to change the bins.
I hated changing the bins but I had to because I was the lowest rung on the ladder. I had no one to delegate the task to.
And therein lies the promise of the working world. If you move up the ladder you get to delegate the jobs you don’t want to do. That makes sense.
But what if you’re on the bottom rung?
You’re told to keep your head down, work hard and wait for your chance to move up.
Wait!
The trouble with waiting is that this game of life does not provide infinite time and it can end at any moment.
Wouldn’t you hate to exit this life having spent all your time doing the jobs you detest?
If you do feel this way then I’d like to propose a time management tweak.
Start practicing your chosen career now, in your free time.
Do it badly. Do it for free. Make mistakes.
After all, experience is the most compelling factor in hiring and you have a chance to gain it.
You could become one of those veterans who you just know, you can see it in their eyes, that they have seen it all.
You could be one of them.
