What if?

What if the bus doesn’t show up?

Then we’ll get a taxi

What if we can’t fit our luggage in the boot of the taxi?

Then we’ll put it on our laps

What if the bags weigh more than 20kg?

Then we’ll pay extra.

What if I get stopped by security?

Then you get stopped by security.

What if I get delayed so long that we miss our flight?

Then we’ll try and get the next flight

What if it costs too much?

Then we’ll go home and have a nice relaxing stay-cation.

This is the not fun use of what if and I think the underlying fear beneath all these questions is:

What if the worst happens and I can’t handle it?

I think no matter what happens you’ll be able to handle it.

I think we work ourselves into anxious knots playing ‘worst case scenario’.

I reckon you could solve a good deal of anxiety by becoming comfortable in the knowledge that whatever happens you’ll be able to handle it.
