Quitting a job without having another one lined up – brave or foolish?
I think this is always going to vary case by case.
I think it’s foolish to quit your job because Rita spilled tea on your favourite moleskin notepad.
Then to consider bravery, if you have been talking about leaving your job for the past two years and still have made no attempt at a job hunt then I think this personal ultimatum is a brave act.
It says life is too short for this suffering. You’ve dawdled for too long. It’s time to sink or swim!
Ideally you would want to start the job hunt as soon as you feel uncomfortable and not when you are absolutely sick of the place.
The continuous avoiding builds up and usually requires radical corrective action.
Ideally you want to stay away from radical corrective action but sure look, you live and you learn. You can start the job hunt earlier next time.
It’s definitely a risky tactic and if you can continue your income stream without a break then that’s great but if it’s affecting your happiness I think life is too short and you need to challenge yourself.
I think anyone looking to leave their comfort zone is performing a brave act.
I think it all depends on how unhappy you are. How much more of that work environment can you handle? Could you do one more month whilst you job hunt or is it time to go now?
