How does a dog learn what’s encouraged and what’s not allowed?
Well they try something and then they get rewarded or scolded.
But then there’s this grey middle area, where they learn how different people have different levels of leniency.
For example they can get away with jumping on the couch with Pam but they wouldn’t dare do that with Pete.
I think we can draw a parallel with humans.
Someone who has done something wrong 100 times without ever being reprimanded has learned that it’s ok to do.
The lack of punishment provides a false sense of what’s allowed.
Just because you can get away with it doesn’t mean you should.
