I think the that those with the most polar opposite opinions could be friends.
If they keep their commonalities and not their differences on the agenda then they could definitely get along.
If they respect each other’s differing views and avoid contentious topics then yes they definitely could be friends and potentially good friends at that.
They might even help open each other’s minds.
If they value the relationship more than winning an argument then they can absolutely be friends.
