Jacques Floseau has stopped painting.
It has required a lifetime’s supply of oranges but it looks like he is finally finished.
This should be a momentous occasion and time for celebration but Jacques is worried.
He is unsure if his painting is good.
In my eyes, a fork in the road, lies before Jacques.
The two options are to consult others for their opinion or not.
If Jacques asks his friends and family their opinions then he may well receive the reassurance he seeks but he may also become reliant upon it. Seeking reassurance means doubting your own opinion and becoming dependent on others to verify your decision.
On the other hand, if Jacques does not consult others and instead determines for himself whether he likes it or not then he begins to become more self assured.
He might come to the conclusion:
‘Others might not agree with me but I think it’s good’
And he would be better off for it.
Each chance to seek reassurance is also an opportunity to build your self assuredness.
One option builds confidence, the other builds reliance.
