I think a lot of the fear, insecurities, and frustration in the workplace come from a lack of autonomy.
You find out through experience that those who deviate from the instructions get in trouble. So it makes for an easier day to just obey.
Regular check ins with the boss to make sure they’re happy with the project seems more like a trouble prevention tactic than anything else.
That’s fair enough nobody likes to get in trouble or have to redo work but this behavior hints at micromanagement and a lack of autonomy.
You ask any employee with a side hustle which work they prefer and it will inevitably be the side hustle.
Because in the side hustle they’re in charge, they get to call the shots.
It’s the reason they have a side hustle in the first place.
If they had enough autonomy in their full time job they wouldn’t need a side hustle.
