The conversation arrived at ‘party pieces’ and I thought to myself:
Why did party pieces die out? How come no one has a song in their back pocket, ready to sing at a moment’s notice these days?
And almost instantly my internal question was answered by another’s external comment:
No one is recording this right?
We unintentionally amplified the embarrassment when we invented recording devices.
What used to be a fun way to create atmosphere has now become social suicide.
