The Argument Clinic

Today I watched season 3, episode 3 of Monty Python’s Flying Circus for the first time… and it was weird!

The sketches were odd, I didn’t understand a lot of the punchlines and felt thoroughly confused for the majority of the episode.

But amidst all this weirdness there was a couple of minutes of pure comedy gold.

The argument clinic sketch was just brilliant! Genius! Monty Python at their finest!

Hours later I was still replaying the jokes in my head (I had completely forgotten the content of the ‘weird’ sketches).

Looking back I thought the episode on the whole was a great metaphor for artists and their output.

When people list JK Rowling’s books I doubt they mention The Casual Vacancy.

I bet no one’s favourite Beatles song is Doctor Robert.

I think people would have a hard time remembering who directed the movie 1941 (it was Stephen Spielberg).

The flops and the gold go hand in hand, you can’t have one without the other.

Fortunately for the artists people only seem to remember the gold.
