Wishing and waiting

If you’re locked away in a tower, cleaning up after your stepsisters, or being dressed by adorable woodland creatures, and wishing for a better life then waiting is a good strategy.

The evidence has shown that either Prince Charming or a fairy godmother are on their way to make everything better. So sit tight!

On the other hand, if you don’t live in a fairytale, wishing and waiting is a poor strategy.

In the real world Prince Charming and the fairy godmother rarely come visiting, if ever.

The much more productive strategy is to get to work.

To rely on yourself for change.

To grab a hold of your life and start exercising some control over your destiny.

I think, in the long run, wishing and waiting leads to bitterness and regret as you slowly realise that no one is coming.

But taking responsibility for bettering your life again and again over the years. I think that’s going to lead to great independence and resilience.
