It’s no coincidence that the bigger the audience, the bigger the internal butterflies.
The larger the audience the greater the possibility of strangers in the crowd.
The judgement of strangers are the opinions we simultaneously fear and crave.
You’re not truly a success until strangers join your fan base.
Friends and family might be a great audience but their feedback is filtered through their fondness for you.
So turning strangers into advocates is the goal but strangers have the potential for such cruelty.
Their fondness filter is absent.
They won’t mince their words, beat around the bush or handle you with kiddy gloves.
They may tear you limb from limb.
Therefore to gain the success you seek you can lessen the downside with a plan for the cruel.
I think something along the lines of regularly repeating a truth of life to yourself.
For example here’s one I found in Prof Steve Peters’ ‘Chimp Paradox’:
‘No one is going to agree with everything you say all the time’
Or
‘No matter what you do not everyone is going to like you’
A plan for th downside greatly increases your potential upside.
