“People are designed to be doers, to accomplish significant things during our time on earth. What we actually hate is to choke our lives up with low-priority activities that mean nothing at the end of the day. We recoil from wasting our lives on a myriad of things that have little or no significance in the long run.”
I think Sandra Felton and Marsha Sims make an important distinction here in their book ’10 time management choices that can change your life’.
I don’t think we would have begrudged Paul McCartney taking a bit more time in the studio when he was composing ‘Yesterday’. He was making a beautiful piece of art.
Similarly I don’t think anyone would berate the engineers at NASA for going over the maths one more time. Lives may well depend on it.
But taking 3 weeks and consulting a committee to craft a positive response to a job offer is just plain maddening.
