Daily writers

Seth Godin, Stephen king, Steven Pressfield and Isaac Asimov.

What do these four all have in common?

They’re all men! They all have an s in their name! They all like cheese!

Hmm the answer I was going for was – they all write daily.

Ah!

By writing daily they have found a process.

A process that carries them through the peaks of literary genius and the troughs of writers block.

By committing to this habit they cast aside the outcomes of their work and dedicate all their time to continue working.

Whether today’s toil was perceived as good or bad they don’t care, they gave their best and that’s all that matters.

I think this is a fantastic practice because of the subjectivity of art.

If you’re throwing a ball at a wall, you can be 100% confident whether you hit it or not.

Unfortunately creativity doesn’t offer that certainty.

Just because your last vampire story was a hit doesn’t mean the next one will be.

These writers have sidestepped the contentious nature of creative results and found a way to give their best everyday.

And I think that could be the secret to their success.
