Graham is in the front passenger seat and is therefore the designated DJ.
At first Graham played all his personal favourite songs and there was little to no reaction from the others.
Then, sensing that his fellow travellers weren’t enjoying his taste in music, Graham took a radically different tact and began to play club classics and top 10 hits.
The mood seemed to lighten in the car and some even started to sing along to the lyrics.
Graham pondered this phenomenon, ‘So I either listen to the jams I like and risk a silent, tense atmosphere in which I am potentially being judged or I play universally liked music and have a more relaxed car journey’.
