Last week I wrote about how CinemaSins showed there was no such thing as the perfect movie.
Today’s blog post is going to be in a similar vein but focus on other artistic areas.
Let’s start with music!
‘Yesterday’ by the Beatles is one of the most famous and covered songs in the world, so you’d think it would be safe from criticism and yet there are those (not me) who say the song is missing a background and a resolution. We never find out why she’s leaving or what happens after she leaves.
If you’re a Lord of the Rings fan you’re probably sick and tired of having to defend the story against the ole ‘but they could’ve just flown the ring to Mordor on the back of those eagles and save all this hassle’ pothole.
‘Thats not the point of the story!!’
Hamlet (the play) is over 400 years old so you could say it has stood the test of time.
However some readers took to the internet to ask certain questions.
Questions like:
‘How come Hamlet and the guards can see the ghost but Gertrude can’t?’
‘So the pirates find out Hamlet is royalty and instead of holding him for ransom they safely return him home? What?!?’
‘How can Hamlet possibly think Claudius is hiding behind the curtains? After seeing him in the church he literally ran to Gertrude’s bedroom. How could Claudius have beaten him there?’
But I don’t think these questions would have bothered the Bard. He himself once said:
“But no perfection is so absolute, that some impunity doth not pollute”
I guess we’ll just have to conclude that there’s no such thing as the perfect piece of art.
