When disobedience helps

The rule is – you don’t proceed without the web manager’s sign off.

It sounds simple enough right?

But what if you’re just a few minutes from quitting time and the web manager still hasn’t replied to your email granting approval.

Following the rule means the decision is easy, the change doesn’t happen. We wait til Monday to pick it up again.

But common sense says that this change is huge and it’s vitally important that it is implemented before the weekend.

You might get in trouble for a pushing live a tiny mistake but you could conceivably get in more trouble for not putting the website live at all.

In this case following the rule could get you in more trouble than disobeying it.

So how brave are the subordinates? Will they be able to see the bigger picture, take the initiative and shoulder the responsibility?
