An interesting quote that makes total sense.
You don’t want the cash, you want what the cash can buy.
You want to drop €1,000 on a dinner without a second thought.
You want to jet off to Hawaii at a moment’s notice.
You want to quit your job without hesitation and dedicate your free time to whatever the heck you want to do!
Or perhaps it’s not freedom you’d buy but security.
Maybe you’d use your lotto winnings to pay off the mortgage and all your debts.
Perhaps you’d buy houses only to rent them out to create a constant revenue stream for yourself.
Maybe you’d even continue to work just to have that steady income?
Fantasising about winning the lotto is an interesting exercise because it reveals a lot about our desires.
Furthermore, as Ferriss alludes, you can figure out your inclination and you can start to rotate towards it now, without the fortune.
So if you like freedom, what if you allowed yourself one night every month to let your hair down and buy whatever you want.
Or possibly you could permit yourself to buy an unlimited amount of a cheap object.
A blank cheque for chocolate!
For security, what if you had a year’s salary saved?
That way if anything should go wrong and you lose your job you could take a year to find another one.
Also an awful work environment might be made that much better knowing that you have the savings to quit whenever you want.
Maybe that’s the feeling Ferriss is talking about and you might enjoy life a lot more knowing you have that safety net.
So maybe it’s not $1,000,000 you need but the much more attainable $30,000 or $40,000 that you’d like?
