If you’re an artist or anyone who receives feedback on their work I think you can’t let the reviewer get away with general sweeping blanket statements like:
“That’s shit!”
I think it’s extremely rude, unfair and unhelpful feedback.
Just imagine being the artist and going back to the drawing board after that rinsing.
You’d have no idea where to go next.
The only insight you would have gleamed into the tyrant’s preferences is that they didn’t like the last attempt.
I think don’t let them get away with it.
Press and probe.
Peel back the layers behind that churlish criticism.
‘Was there anything you liked about it?’
‘Which bit did you like least? What about that bit didn’t you like?’
Tenaciously seeking the root of the problem in the immediate aftermath is going to increase your chances of hitting the target a hundred fold next time in my opinion.
It’s going to benefit all parties if you can figure out what they want.
