I was playing Cluedo the other day and as the game progressed I was faced with a conundrum.
If I wanted to gain more certainty I would have to use more turns. But the more time I spent waiting, the closer my opponents would get to figuring out whodunnit too!
Eventually I lost.
The winner, it turns out, threw caution to the wind and leapt without knowing for certain they were right and it paid off for them.
And I thought what a fantastic metaphor for decision making.
You could spend an eternity making sure the landing spot is safe but us mortal beings don’t have an eternity to spare.
Therein lies the balancing act – enough certainty to feel someway comfortable but also in this lifetime.
