I once went to a bar and was pleasantly surprised to find I knew the barman.
I was even more delighted to find out that he would give me free drinks!
Then as he handed me the pints he whispered:
‘Now give me ten cents’
To which I replied:
‘But I thought you said they were free?’
To which he whispered more urgently:
‘They are! I just need to pretend I’m taking money for the cameras’
It was an exercise in butt covering.
The ten cents loan bought him deniability and avoidance of a scolding.
