To delight those who get the joke.
To offer 2 little presents to those in the know!
One during the movie and one after the movie.
I have an example of ‘delight during the movie’ in the form of a tiktok video.
https://vm.tiktok.com/ZML8m66o7/
The video is taken during a cinema viewing of the recent Spiderman movie.
The moment in particular is when the crowd gets especially excited when Andrew Garfield saves MJ.
Now it wasn’t a particularly difficult save. For a superhero of Spiderman’s caliber it’s almost too easy.
But that’s not why the crowd got excited.
The crowd whooped and whistled because that save was a reference to a very sad moment for Andrew Garfield’s Spiderman.
For the viewers in the know it was a great moment of redemption.
Now for after the movie, those who get the joke delight in telling their oblivious friends all the nuances they missed.
You might say they gain a degree of social status from showing off their film knowledge.
To hide an Easter egg in your film is a clever thing to do because what inevitably follows the viewing, is a discussion.
What did you think of it?
I thought it was a bit weird
Really? I loved it!
What about that car scene though?
Oh my god that was so cool!
Did you notice the Trading Places reference?
No when did that happen?
When he comes out wearing the suit.
