Jealous jibes

You achieved a modicum of success.

Your prospects are now slightly brighter than your peers.

The growth feels good, you finally feel like you’re fulfilling your potential.

But then, unexpectedly, you find yourself on the receiving end of envious barbs thrown by your friends/colleagues/classmates/siblings.

All of a sudden there’s a slight edge to their praise.

It feels uncomfortable.

You don’t like this thinly veiled jealousy. Especially coming from those you deemed to be in your inner circle.

It may cross your mind to turn back.

To hide oneself and dim one’s flame.

Thereby limiting your exposure to negative attention.

But I think we should consider the counter argument too.

Let them be envious.

If you can figure out how to achieve a modicum of success, you can figure out how to handle jealous jibes.

Life is too short not to see how far you can go.
