Simon handed Kurt a jelly.
He thanked Simon and went to eat it.
Then he saw that it was the last jelly from the box and handed it back to Simon.
No persuasion technique in the world could’ve swayed Kurt’s opinion.
There was no way Kurt was going to eat it now.

The last jelly seems to hold some special significance.
It tastes like every other and yet there seems to be some unwritten rule that you can’t take it.
I think the last one differs from the first one because of abundance and scarcity.
When there’s loads to be eaten, it’s a carefree free for all.
But when it’s the last jelly, it feels like you’re depriving someone else of the jelly.
You’re being greedy and selfish and society frowns on these traits.
So the last jelly goes uneaten for the longest time until finally, when no one’s looking, someone steps up to the plate and eats it.
