When you know what to look for the storyteller’s focus can be quite easy to glean.
Where are the pauses?
What aspects are being emphasized?
Then as an audience member, you make certain judgements.
Firstly you judge the content of the story – ‘good lord Madrid sounds awful!’.
Secondly you judge the storyteller for things such as articulation, exaggeration and so on.
But what I think is funny is when the storyteller’s intention inadvertently backfires on them.
For example the vignette clearly tries to portray the tour guide as racist but has ironically painted the storyteller as racist.
Ya gotta love a bit o irony!
