I think there is comedy in juxtaposition.
Take for example John Wick.
He has a healthy disregard for national laws like you can’t commit murder but he will abide by secret society rules like – no fighting in certain hotels.
He is callous towards anonymous henchmen but quite sweet, gentle and loving towards his pets.
He will ferociously fight one man, almost to the death, but when they cross onto hotel boundaries, he buys that same man a drink, shares polite conversation and wishes him well in the future.
Watching the movie and seeing the speed with which he changes tact feels like a joke.
The peculiarity of it all compels me to chuckle.
