Legend has it that the University graduates who sign contacts to join the big 4 to complete their Accounting exams are signing away their souls.
Apparently 12 hour days are the norm, stress and anxiety are typical and exhaustion is not considered a viable excuse for not showing up.
The only saving grace?
The connection between all the young grads as they are bonded by this corporate torture.
But I wonder, seeing as it is such a precarious proposition.
If the grads started dropping out, how quickly would they all drop out?
Whenever anyone leaves the atmosphere is, for better or worse, irrevocably changed.
Watching someone you like leave is especially hard because your inner pessimist will whisper in your ear ‘their replacement will never fill their shoes.’
And so the survivors are unwillingly confronted with a dilemma, am I willing to stay to see if this unknown replacement could improve the craic?
All it takes is a smidge of doubt or a weariness at starting new relationships to tug on that last thin thread holding for dear life.
Then the corporation is in danger of a mass exodus.
