Proposal shocks

I think an engagement proposal shouldn’t be a surprise.

Maybe a shock in the moment, when you thought it was going to be just another dinner date and all of a sudden they’re down on one knee.

But not a surprise in the relationship.

I reckon after a certain amount of time there should be regular signs of intentions.

I think it shouldn’t be a mystery how invested you and your partner are.

For example if you’re coming up on your ten year anniversary and you have no idea if they’re going to propose or dump you then the relationship didn’t have enough communication depth.

I’m not saying a weekly check-in where you reaffirm your desire to eventually marry someone.

I mean a relationship where you’re not afraid to discuss the future and you know where they stand on marriage, kids, and mortgages.

Romance of course should still be incorporated in how one proposes but it’s just being fair and honest with all parties involved that everyone is in agreement about where this is headed.
