Sliding door alternates

I think everyone has a few sliding door moments in their lives.

But I wonder do we default to assuming the path not taken would have been the better option?

Once we let that seed germinate, the confirmation bias kicks and all we see is evidence to support our theory and the longing for what might have been solidifies.

Then perhaps we overlook the sliding door moments where we picked right and our life is better for it.

Because gratitude doesn’t come easily and focusing on the negative is the default setting.

So before we know it, we’ve spent decades pining for an alternate universe that we are certain would be better than this one.
