Rejection is scary. Examining your flaws is scary. Admitting that you are lonely is scary. I wouldn't criticize anyone who is hesitant to do so. But making mountains out of molehills to avoid these exercises makes your issues everyone else's issue.
Relief now or later

Obstacle complaints
"It's not fair, it's a rigged game!"Referees get decisions wrong.The hiring process is flawed.Favouritism exists.I don't think anyone would argue that life is fair and I think complaining is a sign of someone who has come across an unjust obstacle that they've decided is too high for them to hurdle.
Increase in numbing
We may never be able to truly know the full extent of how our subconscious is pulling all the strings but I've learnt that 'numbing' is a subtle tactic for avoiding pain. So we can note a baseline and realize that an increase in numbing activity must mean that deep down something is disturbing us.
