Nicklaus has a selective memory. Can he remember what you said to him 5 minutes ago? No. No chance. His mind is a sieve for certain information. Information he considers 'boring'. But for gossip. My god his brain is like a steel trap. Therefore you have to always be very careful what you say around … Continue reading Nicklaus danger

Brain archives
You have to serve biscuits when guests come to visit. You need to earn more than your spouse. You have to deliver a perfect game every time. You can never give honest feedback at work, even if you're leaving. ... It's hard to know when these rules were filed in our brain's archive but it's … Continue reading Brain archives
Ambition or family
Just watched Jay Kelly last night and whilst I thought it was good it felt familiar. A man reflects on whether his choice of ambition or family was the right one. There seems to be so many of these. Other similar movies that spring to mind include: It's a Christmas Carol, Spirited, Jobs, Click, and … Continue reading Ambition or family
The purpose is mood
When the purpose of the night is to play Monopoly then I'd rather be anywhere else. Too much of the conversation is around strategy, tactics, winning, and losing. Best gift
I think the best gift is the one that shows you know the path ahead of them. You have somehow gleaned what they want in life and given them something to help them get there. It's both rewarding to feel seen and helped along the way

Dumb AI
AI can do really cool things but I think the reason it hasn't taken over yet is that it's also really dumb most of the time. In fact there are many occasions when you have to know when to cut your losses and give up using AI in favour of good old fashioned manual thinking
The silent greats
The greats don't need to sing their own praises. Others do it for them. It's the insecure that are desperate to take the shortcut by trying to convince you they're great with words rather than with actions.
Hidden sadness
I think at the heart of most weird behaviour is a sad reason. They struggle to be honest with themselves about it, so they definitely can't be honest with you about it. Therefore odd actions follow. The husband keeps cheating to try and get his wife's attention because he's feeling neglected. The mother ensures her … Continue reading Hidden sadness
Uncertain tasks
It's the uncertain tasks that are the worst. The ones where you don't know what information you need or what the approvers preference is. So, the short term future looks like grappling around in the dark and you don't even know where to begin. Contrast that to the tasks where you've done it so often … Continue reading Uncertain tasks
