This is quite a funny video, its a compilation of interviews Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Holland do to promote their new movie Avengers Infinity war.
From the footage it becomes quite clear and even stated at one point that Benedict is there to babysit Tom. To ensure that he doesn’t reveal any plot details and spoil the movie for fans.
The studio clearly doesn’t trust Tom with secrets. So much so that he wasn’t even provided with a script. He was given lines just before acting them in the scene and not told about the entire plot, just enough information to do his job.
They’ll hire him but they won’t trust him. It must be pretty demeaning to him and even at one stage he asks someone to provide him proof of all the times he spoiled movies.
I reckon there’s two learning points from this.
1. Don’t take employment with a company that doesn’t trust you. All these interviews although rather funny are just embarrassing for Tom. He doesn’t look like he’s enjoying the arrangement.
2. Trust is hard earned. It takes a lot of time, effort and consistency to earn it. Tom will have to prove himself over the next few years that he is worthy of his employers trust, as it can’t be done overnight. He will have to quickly learn the art of conducting an interview without revealing a major plot point and spoiling a movie in the process.
