I enjoy the Fantastic Beasts films a lot more than the Harry Potter ones.
Which I think is down to the books.
When I’m watching a Harry Potter movie, all I can think of is how they differ from the books.
I say things like:
“Well that’s not supposed to happen”
Or
“That’s not the way they did it in the book”
I love the books and I just can’t remove them from my psyche long enough to enjoy the movie fully.
But when I’m watching a fantastic beasts movie, I have no internal critical commentary I’m just watching a movie. I have nothing to compare it to so I can just let art wash over me.
When we’re too close to something we can become blinded to alternatives.
