Reflection:
This was a worthy opponent.
At first I assumed that ‘You’ had to do all the running back and forth.
Then I thought maybe the fact that the professor holding onto the handrails the whole way was a clue that he could go by himself in the dark.
It occurred to me early on to send the ‘Professor’ and ‘Janitor’ together to save time but I kept thinking I should send them first and would then waste 5 minutes waiting for the Janitor to come back. It pains me to think how close I was to the solution with this.
In hindsight the solution was so easy but it took a lot experimenting and assumption examining to get there.
Don’t read on it you want to solve it yourself 🙂
Answer:
You and the lab assistant go across (2mins). You come back (3mins). Hand the lamp to the professor and the janitor. Send them across (13 mins). The assistant takes the lamp and comes back for you (15 mins). You and the assistant head across the bridge to safety (17 mins). Then ye cut the bridge and flake away mad!
