Presenting via a video call certainly can have its benefits.
First of all your audience can’t see you. Instead you’re sharing your screen displaying your PowerPoint.
This ability to hide can take the pressure off some of the more nervous presenters.
You could read off your notes and nobody would know.
Without the audience in physical proximity you can get comfortable with your speech. You don’t have to project your voice and you can take your time.
Although these are nice benefits the problem is there’s no guarantee that you have your audience’s attention.
Without you standing right in front of them there’s less of an obligation to listen
On a video call the majority of people don’t use their webcam and mute themselves so you can’t see or hear what they’re doing.
They could be browsing the internet, talking to someone else or doing other work.
Video calls are amazingly convenient, especially for international teams but it provides more opportunities for the distracted audience member to not pay attention.
